Atmospheric plasma cleaning
Efficient and environmentally friendly
In practical manufacturing processes, residues from release agents, lubricants or even cleaning agents left on surfaces often pose a problem when it comes to further processing. Optimal adhesion of glues, varnishes or printing inks can only be granted if all components are adequately cleaned.
Atmospheric plasma cleaning is a dry, non-contact, non-abrasive cleaning process that guarantees results of the highest quality. It works, however, only for very thin layers of residue. For this reason, plasma is usually applied for fine or ultrafine cleaning as a final step in a gradual cleaning procedure.
In a chemical reaction with free radicals, organic contamination is mostly transformed into steam and carbon dioxide. The plasma jet also removes dust residue reliably by neutralizing surface charges that bind dust particles to the surface through electrostatic power. Combinations with other cleaning processes, such as for example dry ice blasting, are entirely possible.
The degrees of purity achieved by plasma cleaning are exorbitantly high compared to other cleaning processes. The unburned carbon coating the surface proves that it is free of grease and oil. Alternatively, wetting angles of contact also react very sensitively to even the slightest organic contamination. Compared to other cleaning processes, plasma cleaning is extremely gentle to the environment because no pollutants whatsoever are emitted. In most cases, it is enough to provide basic suction.
Which materials can be plasma cleaned?
Due to optimized process parameters, organic contamination can be removed from virtually any material. In most cases, it is enough to supply the plasma system with basic compressed air.
Plasma cleaning is possible for the following items and applications, just to name a few:
-
Wafers
-
Piston rings
-
Gear wheels
-
Socket pins
-
Clamping tools
-
Injection and hypodermic needles
-
Plastic lenses
-
Switch contacts
-
Circuit boards and electronic components
-
Cleaning steel tape prior to coating
-
Degreasing aluminum tapes prior to printing
-
Removing tensides between steps in the course of a cleaning line
Plasma cleaning – an environmentally friendly process
Due to the minimal amount of chemicals used and high environmental compatibility, plasma cleaning can be your method of choice when it comes to removing thin layers of contaminants while at the same time achieving the maximum level of purity.
